A survival game with a decent dose of horror that is set into a Minecraft inspired world
CastleMiner Z is a game that aims to take the core mechanics of Minecraft along with its gameplay and adds a few extra elements to spice things up. In this rendition of the wildly popular game, you get to embark on a mission to see how long you can travel with fellow companions through an endless world that is filled with all kinds of dangers.
Oct 06, 2018 I came back to Xbox 360 to try some of my old games I couldnt find CastleMiner Z so I searched it on the store and nothing showed up. I searched it on internet explorer and went to the site and clicked the download. CastleMiner Z is an infinite world filled with deep places to explore, and horrifying monsters to slay. Build structures out of blocks, craft weapons and tools from raw materials, and explore the vast and frightening world around you.
Survive with a pickaxe, a compass and a knife
Well, you actually get a gun too along with what appears to be plenty of bullets but that shouldn’t give you too much comfort. The world in CastleMiner Z is very hostile. Zombies spawn from anywhere and everywhere, in few or large numbers and are always out to get you so ammo management is crucial.
You can craft new guns and ammo but the appropriate materials, which luck would have it, are quite hard to find. Mining isn’t a problem at all but you do need to be careful because the pickaxe you get at the start of the game breaks faster than you would expect so crafting a spare is recommended.
Moderate difficulty and horror but still good
When it comes to the atmosphere, CastleMiner Z does well for itself. Ambient lighting is nice and the generated environment looks good. Sound effects are what contribute most if not entirely to the fear factor. Zombie screams and other sounds are well designed and when you find yourself in a deep and dark cave, they become really scary.

Another thing that keeps you on your toes is the fact that you have no idea from where the next zombie, skeleton or ghoul will attack. You just have to constantly keep an eye on your compass, surroundings and ammo.
For a survival game, CastleMiner Z offers moderate difficulty. Sure, you get the huge fire breathing dragon that won't leave you alone even when you’re underground but the number of zombies and other threats you face isn’t a big concern. This is a good thing because after you kill a bunch of zombies in one place you have a bit of time to mine some crafting resources, but on the flipside, you might feel that the game is rather dull and not that challenging.
Worth playing if you want to give sandbox survival a shot
All in all, CastleMiner Z is a well balanced mixture of both good and not so good features with the balance leaning towards the good stuff. Embarking with up to 15 friends on an epic survival quest, building defensive forts, crafting powerful weapons and challenging a big boss make it pretty appealing.
